Dean Hazuka

DEAN HAZUKA
Montana Americana

Writing in the May 2005 issue of Tactical Knives magazine, Dan Shechtman reported, “Montana Americana Knives has filled a niche in the cutlery market. Dean crafts a period-style knife using basic steel and materials that can accomplish any cutlery chore the modern woodman may encounter. His work is superb. Fit and finish match utility.”

Dean works in a shop next to his small cabin in northwest Montana. His wife Heidi makes the sheaths. He is an enthusiastic student of frontier history who refuses to put limits on the adaptation of traditional forms to modern, practical usage. You can read about his intriguing take on knife making and life in his column “Ramblings of a Mountain Man,” which appears in the Campfire Talk section of this website.
